First, the 2009 Topps 206 blaster box
Wow, I really do not like those cards. The bronze parallels are ugly, and even though I'm really in favor of throwback sets (I realy like what they did with Turkey red, for example), this one just doesn't work for me. Even the variations make no sense, with only the backs that are almost blank and unnumbered. I did get a bronze Mantle and the Mantle Variation, so that's a plus.
I do like the minis, though. That's the right size for them.
Next, 6 packs of 2007 UD series 2.
Not my favorite UD design, and is it me, or did their releases just get way out of hand in terms of size ? Over 1 000 cards for a set, that's a lot. Especially with only 5 cards per pack in that case. Nothing much to say, and there was only one Blue Jay in there, but I did get a nice looking relic of a player I don't really care about (no offence Hank !)
And now, 6 packs of 2006 UD series 2.
Not much either. The first two cards are part of the gold parallel set. I'm a sucker for serial numbered cards, but I don't understand the point in just putting the logo in gold instead of silver ? Electric diamond, now that was nice ! Give me back Electric diamond with serial numbered cards, and you've got a winner in my book. The Ozuna card ranks as one of my favorite photos of all time. And I like the Vazquez one because it looks like they're playing patty cake, and that's just cute.
4 jumbo packs (20 cards each) of 2009 UD series 2
Very few inserts besides some O Pee Chee previews, and a couple of nice cards.
Oh, and there was that card :
Yeah I know, I was hating on those gold parallels just a few lines ago, but it's still a nice pull of a player I really like. Hi BV is apparently $30
I'll be back soon with the rest ! stay tuned (and if any of those cards interest you, don't hesitate to let me know, of course)
You're right, the 2009-10 reincarnations of Topps 206 were complete busts. Topps made a couple awesome tobacco-themed sets in 2002 and 2003 (Topps 205 and 206). You should check those out if you get a chance.
